PHOENIX, Ariz. – The University of Arkansas At Pine Bluff men's basketball team lost at Grand Canyon 67-54 Saturday night.
Shaun Doss and
Terrance Banyard each scored 12 points, and
Dequan Morris scored nine points with a team-high seven rebounds.
UAPB outrebounded GCU 35-33 and committed only five second-half turnovers, but could not get closer than five points in the second half.
After trading baskets in the opening minutes but trailing 16-8, the Golden Lions made a run, as an 8-2 spurt finished by Alvin Stredic putback cut the UAPB deficit to 18-16 with just over 9 ½ minutes to play until halftime. However, an 8-2 'Lopes run pushed the Grand Canyon lead to 28-18 and an eventual 29-22 lead at intermission.
In the second half, a
Jamil Wilson layup cut the UAPB deficit to five in the opening minute before five straight GCU points pushed the margin to 10 at 34-24 with 17:43 remaining.
The Golden Lions pulled to within six points on three different occasions, the last at 38-32 on a Banyard layup with just over 14 minutes remaining, but could get no closer.
UAPB returns to action Tuesday at Kansas State at 7 p.m., with a live video stream on ESPN+.
