MANHATTAN, KS. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team battled hard for 40 minutes before falling to Kansas St. 62-51, Tuesday night at the Bramlage Coliseum.
The Golden Lions jumped to their largest lead of the game 18-14 with a layup by Issac Bassey with 7:14 left in the first half, before going into the locker room tied at the half 27-27.
With eight lead changes in the first half, the Wildcats came out in the second half and went on a 9-2 run to take the lead, a lead they maintained for the final 13 minutes of the game to seal the win.
"The guys played with a lot of energy tonight," said UAPB head coach George Ivory. "We've got to cut back on the turnovers and drive the lane to get good shots or get to the free-throw line. Overall, I'm glad to see the team competed and the new guys catching up with the speed of the game."
The Golden Lions held the Wildcats to 20-52 from the field, shooting 38.5% compared to UAPB 22-50, 44.0% for the game.
Senior Marquell Carter led UAPB with game-high 22 points, followed by junior Markedric Bell with eight points, and Bassey with six points. On the defensive side, Carter also finished with nine rebounds, along with junior Dequan Morris.
The Golden Lions will be back in action in the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off Thursday at Pittsburgh at 6 p.m. with a live video stream on ACC Network +.
