Volleyball Sweeps Grambling St. In Regular Season Finale

GRAMBLING, LA.- In their final match of the regular season, The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball continued its winning ways against a conference foe, sweeping Grambling St. in straight sets 25-20, 25-18, 25-10 Thursday night at the Freddy Hobdy Assembly Center.

The Lady Lions are coming off a thrilling four-set victory at home against Texas Southern Monday night and have won back-to-back matches. 

"I'm excited the way the girls came out and played a complete game tonight," said first-year UAPB head coach Chelsey Lucas. "With the conference tournament not far away, we're peaking at the right time."

Freshman Zyaire Garrit continues to make a strong statement in the conference with a team-high nine kills, followed by freshman Zyonn Smith and sophomore Haley Gomez with six kills apiece. Senior Micayla Pope added 16 assists.  On the defensive side, Gomez and freshman Samoana Poyer both had a game-high five blocks apiece.

With the win, the Lady Lions will be the seventh seed in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship that will be held Nov. 22-23 in Itta Bena, MS.
