Volleyball Ends Season With Loss To Prairie View In SWAC Tourney

ITTA BENA, MS.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team turn around season has come to a close following a tough loss to Prairie View 25-21, 25-15, 25-18 Friday night at the R.W. Harrison Hper Center in the quarterfinals of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Lady Lions had entered the match against the Lady Panthers qualifying for the conference tournament for the first time since 2017 under first-year UAPB head coach Chelsey Lucas.

"We had a good run this season, and I'm very excited about the future with this program," said Coach Lucas.  "I'm proud of the ladies, and we have something special that we're building here at UAPB."

Highly touted freshman Zyaire Garrit led the Lady Lions with 11 kills, followed by sophomore Kaila Robinson with nine kills and freshman Reagin Williams added six kills.  Senior Micayla Pope contributed 20 kills.   On the defensive side Robinson, sophomore Breana August, and freshman Zyonn Smith finished the game in double-digits in digs with 12, 12, and 10, respectively.

Despite the loss, the future is bright for the Lady Lions, who closed out the season losing one senior to graduation.  Lucas looks to 2020 with a team that will be full of postseason experience and returns 13 players including Robinson who was named SWAC Newcomer of the Year.
