HATTIESBURG, MS. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team dropped a non-conference road match to Southern Mississippi 19-25, 25-22, 16-25, 10-25 Friday night at the Reed Green Coliseum.
Following a loss in the first set, the Lady Lions stormed back to take the second set. The Lady Eagles built an early lead in the third set and clinched set four to seal the win.
"We had some opportunities that we let slip away in the last two sets," said first-year UAPB head coach Chelsey Lucas. "Hopefully, we can correct those mistakes as we head down the stretch in conference play."
Freshman Zyaire Garrit led UAPB's offense with eight kills, followed by freshman Samoana Poyer and sophomore Haley Gomez with seven kills apiece. Senior Micayla Pope added 20 assists for UAPB. On the defensive side sophomore, Breana August contributed 26 digs, along with junior Bri-Anna Armstrong with 22, and Poyer had a team-high four blocks.
UAPB will be back in conference play Thursday against Southern  at 6 p.m. in Baton Rouge, LA.
