The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff soccer team fell to Southern 2-1 in conference play Friday at Pumphrey Stadium.
The match look destined for overtime, until the Lady Jags scored a goal late in the second half to secure their first conference win of the season.
"We got out worked in the second half, and all credit goes to Coach Fontenot and his team," said first-year UAPB head coach Jeremy Winzer. "They had their backs against the wall in a must-win game, and they came out on top. We'll rebound from this and get ready for Sunday's match."
Senior Sarah Wright led the way for the Lady Lions with one goal, three shots, one shot on goal, followed by senior Shannon Seymour, junior Alexis Sanders, and freshman Evangelia Sandoval-Belmudez each with one shot and one shot on goal. On the defensive side, freshman goalie Trinity Taylor collected two saves for UAPB.
UAPB will be back in action Sunday against Jackson St. at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
