PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Prairie A&M Lady Panthers jumped out to a fast start in knocking off the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff 80-41 on Monday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

Senior guard Shala Dobbins pumped in a game-high 19 points and five rebounds for Prairie View, junior guard Dominique Newman had 11 points and senior guard Artavia Ford followed with 10 for the Lady Panthers.  The victory also enabled Prairie View (8-9, 5-2) to move within a half-game of Southern for first place in the league.

Junior guard Atitiana Vincent scored 11 points to lead UAPB (4-10, 1-6), which found itself in a huge hole after the game's first 10 minutes and never got out of it.  The Lady Panthers scored 20 of the final 25 points of the opening quarter to turn a 7-4 lead into a 27-9 bulge.  Prairie View A&M then held UAPB to just one field goal in the second quarter while going 6 of 14 from the field itself to build a 47-11 lead at halftime.  In fact, the Lady Lions shot just 18 percent (4 of 22) in the first half and turned the ball over 12 times.  In contrast, the Lady Panthers were 16 of 32 (50 percent) and committed just three turnovers.

UAPB, which also got 10 points from junior guard Noe'll Taylor, fared better in the second half.  The Lady Lions used a quick 7-2 run to start the third quarter, highlighted by a pair of lay-ups from Taylor, before the Lady Panthers firmly re-established control and cruised from that point on.

The Lady Lions will have a chance to get back in the win column Saturday when square off against Grambling State in the first of four consecutive road games.  Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
