Lady Lions Fall At Southern

Baton Rouge, LA. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team dropped a road game Saturday evening, falling to Southern University 73-41. This is the first conference road game of the season for the Lady Lions.

Junior Aiya El Hassan led the Lady Lions with 10 points and.  Junior guard Atitiana Vincent, Taylor Noe'll, and Kyeonia Harris each added seven points,while Taylor had a team-high seven rebounds for UAPB.

The Lady Jaguars got off to a fast start, scoring 11 consecutive points before Aiya El Hassan got the Lady Lions on the board with a strong drive for the layup.  Southern would use a late run before UAPB would make a late rally and trimmed the deficit to 32-13 at the break.

UAPB would open the second half with a steal and layup by Taylor Noe'll to cut into Southern lead, but it was not enough as the Lady Jaguars clinched their fourth conference victory.

UAPB will be back in action on their second consecutive road game against Alcorn St Monday Jan. 21, in Lorman, MS.

• Junior Aiya El Hassan led the team with 10 points.
• El Hassan scored in double figures for the second time this season.
• Lady Lions was 14-of-24 from the free throw line versus Lady Jaguars 20-of-24.
• Southern U. shot 26-of-55 (47.3%) versus UAPB 12-of-43 (27.9%)
• Shawntayla Harris led the team in blocks with two.  This is the seventh game where Harris has two or more blocks
• Brittany Rose led the Lady Jaguars with 14 points, followed by Cailain Williams with 11 points.
