Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. - With her team trailing by just one point at home,
Shawntayla Harris received the ball in the post from backup point-guard
Kye Richardson, made a fake to the inside, took a power dribble then
kissed it off the glass for the game-winning shot with 13 seconds to play as she catapulted her team to a 55-53 victory against Alabama State University at H.O. Clemmons Arena. The win marks the second Southwestern Athletic Conference victory in a row for the Lady Lions, who improve to 3-8 in conference play. Harris, who was the lone Lady Lion to earn Preseason All-SWACÂ Women's Basketball honors, finished with a near double-double and scored 10 points, grabbed eight boards, produced two blocks, had one assist and one steal in 19 minutes of action while Richardson tied a team-high with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field and nailed three 3-pointers in the win.
Both teams were nearly identical in points scored in every single quarter; 1st quarter, UAPB-14, ASU 14; 2nd quarter, UAPBÂ 14, ASU 13; 3rd quarter, UAPBÂ 14, ASU 13; 4th quarter, UAPBÂ 13, ASU 13. Although Alabama State won the rebound battle by two (39 to 37) and shot better from the floor as a team (40 percent vs.33 for UAPB), it was UAPB's defense that proved to be the difference down the stretch as the team scored 17 points off of 17 turnovers. The Lady Lions squad was the true aggressor all night as it got to the line a total of 24 times and made 12 free throws while its opponent shot only 10 free throws and made just six all night.
