BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions and Lady Lions teams competed in the 2018 Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex, with the men finishing fifth overall with a total of 70.50 points.
On the men's side, the quartet of
Harlan Clarke,
Wade Garner,
Laural Heath and
Alexander Collier won the men's distance medley relay (DMR) with a time of 10:24.52. Garner also rewrote the record books as his 1:51.41 mark in the men's 800 meter run landed him gold. Heath picked up a second place finish in the men's mile run with a time of 4:23.16 as well as a third place finish in the men's 800 run with a time of 1:55.98 while teammate Clarke finished in fourth with a time of 1:56.56. UAPB produced three of the top four runners in the men's 800.
Leaping a distance of 15.48 meters, UAPB's
Travis Bibbs stole the show with a first place finish in the men's triple jump while teammates
Rodney Griffin and
Malique Smith finished fifth and seventh in the men's 400 meter dash, posting times of 48.78 and 49.04 respectively.
With a distance of 15.29 meters, Miles
Dortch picked up bronze in the men's weight throw.
In the men's 1000 meter run in the heptathlon,
Shevon Phipps finished fifth with a time of 3:11.09. He also earned eighth and ninth place finishes in the hurdles (9.65) as well as the pole vault (2.51 meters) respectively.
This meet concluded indoor season as both teams get set to begin outdoor season in March.
