PINE BLUFF, Ark. -The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions volleyball team fell to Southern University in three sets (25-19, 25-21, 26-24) in Southwestern Athletic Conference action at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. As a team UAPB hit .143 while its opponent managed to hit .228.
"It's a combination of a lot of things, but the main thing is having a ton of youth on the floor and still trying to figure things out," said Lady Lions Head Coach
Dustin Sahlmann. "I've been talking to them for the last three or four weeks about us being more aggressive and more assertive; we need to be the team to set the tone, not waiting for mistakes to happen and then squeak things out."
Junior outside hitter
Kendalle Howard finished with a game-high 10 kills while teammate
Britney Sahlmann produced a game-30 assists.
Freshmen
Haley Gomez and Charis Adefolarim both chipped in with six kills apiece while freshman
Kaylyn Brown finished with a game-high three solo blocks and added for block assists in the loss.
Sophomore libero
Cheyenne Odgers finished with a team high 11 digs.
"It's always nice to be able to play at home (in Pine Bluff), said Coach Sahlmann. "We have two more conference matches coming up before we have to go on the road again, so I'm hoping we can get things right against Texas Southern on Sunday.
UAPB (3-14, 1-5 SWAC) returns to action on Sunday, October 7 as it hosts Texas Southern University in SWAC action. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m. at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.
