SU EDGES UAPB FOR 74-70 WIN

Box Score BATON ROUGE, La. (Feb. 13) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Women's Basketball dropped a 74-70 decision to Southern University, here Saturday afternoon at the F.G. Activity Clark Center.
 
UAPB jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the first quarter on a Niya Head jumper with 5:44 left in the quarter.
 
SU cut UAPB's to 12-9 lead on a Miaya Crowder jumper in the paint with 2:38 left in the quarter, capping a 4-0 run by the Jaguars.
 
The Lady Lions regrouped and pushed their lead back to seven points on a Diamond Richardson jumper with 21 seconds left in the quarter.
 
UAPB went into the second quarter with an 18-13 lead over SU.
 
In the second quarter, SU used a 15-8 run to take a 27-26 lead on a Crowder jumper with 3:18 left before the break.
 
The Lady Lions went into the break trailing the Jaguars 36-33.
 
UAPB finished the first half shooting 45.9 percent (17-of-37), whereas SU shot 57.7 percent (15-of-26).
 
The Lady Lions used a 10-7 run to tie the contest at 43-43 on a three point play by Ajia Richardson with 3:43 left in the third quarter.
 
SU closed out the third quarter with a 15-5 run to take a 57-47 lead into the fourth quarter of play.
 
The Lady Lions cut SU's lead to 72-70 with a 23-15 run on a pair of Diamond Richardson free throws with 24 seconds in the contest.
 
With three seconds left in the contest, Britney Washington would hit a pair of free throws to give the Jaguars the 74-70 win over the Lady Lions.
 
UAPB finished the contest shooting 44.9 percent (31-of-69), whereas SU shot 52.0 percent (26-of-50).
 
SU (12-9, 9-3 SWAC) was paced by Brianna Green with a game high 22 points to lead all scorers, while Washington added 18 and Ashley Williams finished with 10.  Williams led the Jaguars on the boards with seven, while Cortnei Purnell led the team in assists with four.
 
UAPB (7-16, 4-8 SWAC) was led by Ajia Richardson with a team high 16 points, followed by both Destiny Brewton and Diamond Richardson with 15 points each and Head with 14 and eight rebounds.
