Corvallis, Ore. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team dropped a 73-40 decision to No. 22 Oregon St. Lady Beavers in both teams final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday night at the Gill Coliseum.

The Lady Lions (3-8) ran into a hot-shooting Beavers (11-1) squad who got off to a hot start in the first five minutes of the game, racing out to an 11-2 lead.  The Lady Lions would not back down, closing the gap to as little as four points (12-8) in the first quarter with a three by junior Faith Ohanta and a three point play by junior Destiny Brewton, who was foul on a layup.   Oregon St. was able to take advantage of scoring 12 points in the paint in the first quarter to end on a 17-10 lead over UAPB. 

The second quarter started off better for UAPB as freshman Aiya El Hassan scored the first five points, to get some positive rhythm for the Lady Lions as she connected on a three from behind the arch and a drive to the basket for a layup to put the score at (20-15), sophomore Kye Richardson jumper from the corner would cut the Lady Beavers lead to three (20-17) with 7:14 left in the half.  The Lady Beavers ended the quarter with a spurt that consisted of two consecutive layups by Madison Washington and Mikayla Pivec and a three point shot by Sydney Wiese to give Oregon St. a 38-23 lead going into intermission. 

The Lady Beavers added to their lead in the third quarter as the Lady Lions would continue to hustle and make plays, drawing excitement from crowd in the final period.  Oregon St.  outscored UAPB for the entire fourth quarter 14-5 until the home team made free throws in the final seconds to take the win for the Lady Beavers.

Oregon St. used their size inside to out rebounded UAPB 53-25, scoring 28 points in the paint and 21 second chance points.   The Lady Lions benched step up scoring 22 points versus the Lady Beavers 26.  Overall, on the charity stripes Oregon St. made half of its shots 21-of-28 while UAPB was 3-of-8.

UAPB Destiny Brewton finished the game with a team-high 14 points, one assist and three rebounds, followed by Aiya El Hassan with 10 points, shooting 4-of-6 from the field and 2-of-2 from the three point and two rebounds.  Sophomore Shawntayla Harris led the Lady Lions in rebounds with six, one block and five points. 

The Lady Lions now have a break until Southwestern Athletic Conference play begins on Monday, January 2.  They will host conference rival Mississippi Valley in a 5:30 p.m. game at home in the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
