In the first stanza of play, the Cardinals jumped out to a 13-2 lead, capped off by a Moriah Monaco three pointers at the 7:30 mark of the first quarter.

UAPB cut BSU's lead to 15-9 with 4:50 left in the stanza with a 7-2 run, capped off by a Muhammad Malaik layup.

The Cardinals closed out the first half with an 11-0 run to take a 26-9 lead into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, BSU outscored the Lady Lions 25-17 to take a 51-26 lead into the break.   UAPB finished the first half shooting 27.2 percent (9-of-30), where as the Cardinals shot 47.1 percent (16-of-34).

In the third quarter of play, both UAPB and BSU finished the quarter with 16 points each with the Cardinals taking a 67-42 lead into the fourth quarter of play.

BSU outscored UAPB, 21-18 in the fourth quarter for the 88-60 win.

UAPB (0-1) was led by Muhammad with 17 points, followed by both
Niya Head and
Shawntayla Harris with 11 points each. Â
Faith Ohanta and Harris led the Lady Lions on the boards with eight each.

BSU (1-0) had two players to finish with 20-plus points each. Monaco finished the contest with 24 points to lead all scorers, while Renee Bennett finished with a double-double in 22 points and 11 rebounds. Jill Morrison rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Cardinals with 12.
