UAPB FALLS TO PVAMU, 70-55

Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Jan. 23) - The University of Arkansan at Pine Bluff had two players to score in double-figures in a 70-55 loss to Prairie View A&M here Saturday afternoon at the William J. Nicks Arena.
 
In the opening stanza of play, UAPB jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a Niya Head jumper with 6:51 remaining in the first quarter.
 
PVAMU pulled within one with a 10-4 run to cut UAPB's lead to 11-10 on a Larissa Scott jumper with 3:37 remaining in the quarter.
 
UAPB took a 15-10 lead into the second quarter on back-to-back field goals by Head at the 1:06 mark and the 23 seconds mark.
 
The Lady Lions opened the second quarter with a 10-4 run to take a 24-14 lead on a Head jumper with 7:03 left before intermission.  UAPB then extended their lead to 30-19 on a Diamond Richardson layup at the 5:12 mark.
 
PVAMU then regained with back-to-back three pointers by Monique Abbs and Larissa Scott capping an 11-0 run by the Lady Panthers to give them a 33-30 lead with 1:11 remaining.
 
UAPB would go into the break trailing PVAMU, 36-32 with the Lady Lions finishing the first half shooting 44.4 percent (12-of-47).  The Lady Panthers finished the first half shooting 31.3 percent (10-of-32).
 
PVAMU opened the third quarter of player with a 9-2 run to take a 45-34 lead on a Scott jumper with 6:25 remaining in the third quarter.
 
After three quarters of play, PVAMU took a 56-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
Both teams scored 14 points each as PVAMU held on for the 70-55 win.
 
The Lady Lions finished the contest shooting 37.9 percent (22-of-58), whereas the Lady Panthers shot 38.3 percent (23-of-60).
 
Diamond Richardson finished with a team high 16 points to lead the Lady lions in scoring, while Head finished with a double-double in 14 points and 11 rebounds.
 
PVAMU had four Lady Panthers to finish in double-figures with both Lamaria Cole and Lanikki McMillian both finishing with a team high 15 points each, Abbs finished with 14, while Scott added 12.  Scott led the PVAMU on the board and in assist with seven rebounds and four assists.
 
With the loss, UAPB goes to 4-13 and 1-5 and Southwestern Athletic Conference play, whereas PVAMU raises their record to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
