UAPB FALLS TO ALABAMA A&M, 78-70

Box Score NORMAL, Ala. (Jan. 9) -The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Women's Basketball team rally fell short in the second conference game with Alabama A&M defeating the Lady Lions, 78-70, here Saturday afternoon at Elmore Gymnasium.
 
AAMU jumped out to an 8-2 lead to open the first quarter with Janie Myles scoring the first three field goals for the Lady Bulldogs with 6:20 remaining in the first.
 
UAPB closed the gap with as they outscored AAMU 8-7 in the next three minutes on a jumper by Niya Head with 3:00 left in the quarter.
 
The Lady Lions went into the second period trailing AAMU 21-15.
 
AAMU opened the second quarter with a 11-6 run to take a 32-21 lead on a pair of Shakira Logan free throws with 5:34 left in the quarter.
 
UAPB used a 12-8 run to the cut AAMU's lead to 40-33, capped off by a Diamond Richardson three pointer with 1:19 remaining in the quarter.  Richardson and Cassidy Wright combining for eight points in the run.
 
AAMU closed out the quarter with a 5-2 run to take a 45-35 lead into the break.
 
UAPB finished the first half shooting 50 percent (13-of-26), whereas AAMU shot 53.3 percent (16-of-30).
 
The Lady Lions opened the third quarter with a 17-7 run to take a 53-52 lead on a pair of Destiny Brewton free throws with 4:04 left in the quarter.
 
AAMU ended the third quarter with a 5-0 run to take a 57-53 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
In the fourth quarter of play, AAMU pushed their lead to 74-61 on a Deborah Martin layup with 4:16 remaining in the contest.
 
The Lady Lions closed out the quarter with a 9-4 run as the Lady Bulldogs held off the UAPB rally for the 78-70 win.
 
UAPB finished the contest shooting 44.6 percent (25-of-56), while AAMU shot 50.0 percent (29-of-58).
 
UAPB (3-12, 0-2 SWAC) had two Lady Lions to score in double-figures with both Head and Brewton finishing with 16 points each.  Also UAPB had three players to finish with nine points each in Ajia Richardson, Diamond Richardson and Attirah Munir.  Head lead the Lady Lions in rebounds with nine.
 
AAMU (2-11, 1-2 SWAC) was led by Myles with 21 points and 18 rebounds, whereas both Taliah Moore and Jaylan Snowden finished with 15 points each for the Lady Bulldogs.
