IOWA STATE ROUTS UAPB, 70-41

Box Score AMES, Iowa (Dec. 13) - Iowa State handed the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Women's Basketball their third straight loss with a 70-41 win over the Lady Lions here Sunday afternoon at the Hilton Coliseum.
 
UAPB (3-6) had only one Lady Lion to score in double-figures with Niya Head scoring a team high 15 points and pulling down five rebounds.  Destiny Brewton led UAPB on the boards with six, where Diamond Richardson dished out a team high three assists.
 
ISU (6-3) had three Cyclones to score in double-figures with Bridget Carleton scoring a game high 22 points to lead all scorers, while both Meredith Burkhall and Seanna Johnson finished with 11 points each for ISU.  Bryanna Fernstrom led the Cyclones on the boards with 12, while Jadda Buckley dished out a game high seven assists.
 
In the first stanza of play, UAPB grabbed a 4-3 lead on back-to-back field goals by Head with 7:51 remaining in the quarter. 
 
ISU regained the lead with Johnson field goal, followed by a Burkhall free throw to take a 6-4 lead with 6:56 to go.
 
Destiny Brewton tied the contest at 6-6 with her made field goal at the 6:40 mark.  UAPB would tie the contest once more at 9-9 on a Cassidy Wright three pointer with 5:05 remaining. 
 
The quarter would see three more times with Johnson tying the contest at 11-11 with her made field goal at the 4:11 mark; a layup by Burkhall at the 2:58 mark to knot the score at 13-13  and Carleton three pointer to make the score 16-16 with 2:17 remaining.
 
ISU then pulled away to take a 23-18 lead after one quarter of play.
 
The Cyclones opened the second quarter with a 13-5 run to take a 39-23 lead with 4:25 remaining in the half, capped off by a Carleton three pointer.
 
UAPB went into the break trailing ISU, 43-28 at the half.
 
In the second half, ISU extended their lead to much as 27 points as they outscored UAPB, 27-13 for the 70-41 finale.
