UAPB DEFEATS TALLADEGA COLLEGE, 68-55 IN NONCONFERENCE MATCHUP

UAPB Sweeps, going 2-0 in the HBCU Classic
Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Nov. 28) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Women's Basketball avenged their Nov. 20 loss to Talladega College with a 68-55 win over the Lady Tornadoes in their final game of the HBCU Classic, here Saturday afternoon at the LeMoyne College Gymnasium.
 
Talladega grabbed the early 6-2 lead in the first quarter on a Latisha Brown layup with 7:15 remaining. 
 
A Destiny Brewton three pointer gave the Lady Lions a 9-8 lead with 5:08 left in the first, capping a 7-2 run by UAPB.
 
Talladega reclaimed the lead on Tajanee Wells layup at the 2:19 mark of the quarter to take a 16-13 lead.  But UAPB closed out of the quarter with an 8-3 lead to take a 21-19 lead, after one quarter of play.
 
 
After two complete quarter of play, UAPB took a 39-27 lead into the break as both Diamond Richardson and Ajai Richardson combined scored nine of the Lady Lions 15 points in the quarter.
 
UAPB finished the first half shooting 55.2 percent (16-of-27), whereas Talladega shot 37.9 percent.
 
The Lady Lions extended their lead to 46-27 in the third quarter on an Attirah Munir three-point play with 6:09 left in the quarter. 
 
Talladega cut UAPB's lead to 47-42 with a 15-3 run, capped off by a Wells layup with 2:23 left in the quarter.
 
The Lady Lions closed out the quarter with a 7-2 to run to take a 54-44 lead into the fourth quarter on a Brewton jumper with four seconds left in the third.
 
In the fourth quarter, UAPB extended their lead to much as 15 points as the Lady Lions held on for the 68-55 win.
 
UAPB had four Lady Lions to score in double-figures with Niya Head finishing with a team high 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Shawntayla Harris in her first start collegiate start scored 13 points.  Munir pumped in 13 points and pulling down nine boards, while Diamond Richardson added 10.
 
Talladega had a pair of the Lady Tornadoes to score in double-figures with Wells finishing with 13 and Ashley Burchfield with 12.
 
With the win, UAPB pulls to 3-3 on the season, where Talladega drops to 8-3.
