Natalie Gibbs set a team-high seven kills, but the University of Arkansas at Monticello hit its way to a 3-0 win over the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (3-17, 1-1 SWAC) volleyball team on Tuesday night in a non conference match at the Steelman Field House.
Gibbs recorded seven kills in 24 attempts and three digs, both team high for UAPB.
Lauren Corby was next with seven kills. She also tallied two digs.
Whitney Harris contributes with five digs while
Alexis Smith posted four digs. Carolina Gasparini led the Lady Blossom (7-8, 1-4 Great American) with 11 kills while Aubrey Harrison followed with eight.
Lady Blossom set the tone for the night in game one, hitting .407 as Alyissa Theis posted 12 assists in leading UAM to a 25-19 win. It was close early on as UAM found itself up 7-4 on a UAPB error. The Lady Blossom scored the next three in a row to take a 10-4 lead forcing a UAPB time out. UAPB closed the gap to 16-10 on a
Lauren Corby kill, but the Lady Blossom was able to pull away.
An early 8-2 lead in the second frame saw the Lady Blossom take a 25-10 win. Facing a 15-4 deficit, the Lady Lions did their best to fight back, scoring five of the next seven points to close the margin at 17-9. Sydni Schulz notched a service ace while Gasparini and Kedra Johnson had kills in the run. The rally was not to be as UAM finished off the set on a 7-1 run.
In the third game, UAM scooted out to an early 5-1 lead and clinched the match with a 25-14 win. They hit .143 in the set while notching eight kills.
UAPB is back in action on Friday when the Lady Lions take on Mississippi Valley at 6 p.m. at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
