Box Score ALCORN STATE, Miss. (Jan. 17) - The University of Arkansas Women 's Basketball Team dropped their third Southwestern Athletic Conference game as Alcorn State defeated the Lady Lions, 45-39 here Monday afternoon at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
In the first half of play, UAPB jumped out to a 12-0 lead capped off by a
Charisse Carr layup with 15:07 to go in the half.
ALCN countered with a 15-6 run to cut UAPB's lead to 18-15, capped off by a Lauren Turner three pointer with 6:39 left in the first.
UAPB finished the first half shooting 31.3 percent (10-of-32) from the floor, while ALCN shot 25.0 percent (6-of-24) as UAPB went into the break leads Alcorn State,23-22.
The Lady Lions opened the first half to take a 27-23 season with 17:21 left in the contest as
Destiny Brewton scored UAPB's first two baskets of the half.
Alcorn State tied the contest at 29-29 on a jumper by Lauren Turner at the 15:19 mark and extended their lead to 33-29 on a pair of Jazmin Strang free throws at the 12:03 mark, capping a 10-2 run by the Lady Braves.
The Lady Lions cut the ALCN's lead to three points on two occasions on a Brewton jumper at the 4:00 mark and again on a made free throw by
Ajia Richardson with 1:55 left in the game .
UAPB finished the contest shooting 29.6 percent (16-of-54), while ALCN shot 25.0 percent (13-of-52).
The Lady Lions was led by both Brewton and
Diamond Richardson as they both finished with nine points each for UAPB, followed by
Ajia Richardson with seven.
ALCN was paced by both Angelic Wilson-Reid and Jazmin Strange as both finished with a double-double with Wilson-Reid scoring 14 points and pulling down 14 boards, while Strane scored 11 points and pulled down 10 boards for the Lady Braves.
With the win, Alcorn State raises their record to 4-10 overall and 3-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while UAPB lowered their record to 4-12 and 2-3 in conference play.
The Lady Lions will return to action on Saturday, January 24 as they will welcome Texas Southern to the H.O. Clemmons Arena in a 7:30 p.m. start.
