Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Jan. 10 ) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Women's Basketball dropped their first conference contest of the season as Alabama State defeated the Lady Lions, 64-53 here Saturday afternoon at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
Destiny Brewton gave the Lady Lions a 4-3 lead with 18:08 to go in the first.
ASU regained the lead with a layup by Jamicia Lewis and a three pointer by Kayla Tucker to give the Lady Hornets the 8-4 advantage with 16:17 left in the first.
Then the Lady Lions would suffer a six minute scoring drought as UAPB would not score their next basket until the 10:39 mark on a
Jazmyne Victorian layup, ASU's lead to 20-8.
UAPB closed out the half with a 10-4 run as they went into the break trailing ASU 37-25.
The Lady Lions finished the first half shooting 40.0 percent (12-of-30), while the Lady Hornets also shot 40.0 percent. Â
In the second half, UAPB outscored ASU, 28-27 as the Lady Hornets held on to win the contest 28-27.
UAPB (3-10, 1-1 SWAC) was led by
Shami Goodman with a team high 12 points, followed by Brewton with nine and both
Ajia Richardson and Jasmyne Victorian with eight each for the Lady Lions.
ASU(6-7, 2-1 SWAC) was led by Jasmine Peeples as she scored a game high 15 points to lead all scorers, followed by Britney Wright with 14 and Kayla Tucker with 11. Daniele Ewert led the Lady Hornets on the boards with 10.
UAPB will return to action on Monday, January 12 as they will take Alabama A&M in a 5:30 p.m. contest at the H.O. Clemmons Arena. Â Â Â
