Box Score Pine Bluff, Ar. – The University of Arkansas Pine Bluff battle back from a nine point halftime deficit, but couldn't make it over the hump in the second half against Jackson St. (8-11, 6-2 SWAC) falling to the Lady Tigers 78-69 in Monday evening match up at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
The Lady Lions raced out to an early advantage, leading by as many as three in the early moments of the first half, with a layup from
Carlisha Walker in the 10:29 mark to make the score 17-14. However, Jackson St. reeled off 12 consecutive points to give JSU the lead for good.
Driven by Dominique Brothern, JSU outscored the Lady Lions 23-14 into the half, taking a 40-31 halftime lead.
Coming out the locker room at the half, the Lady Tigers, built its largest lead of the game (14), but the Lady Lions came out firing, using two consecutives scores from Jazyme Victorian to trim the deficit to single digits with 11:12 on the clock in the second half. Although JSU rebuilt to 12 points, UAPB launched into a 11-3 run over the next four minutes stretch to trim JSU advantage to just four with 3:38 remaining.
Three consecutive JSU scores allowed the Lady Tigers to rebuild their lead and hold off the Lady Wildcats, en route to a 78-69 final.
The Tigers shot 61,7 from the field in the game, the Lady Lions shot 41.1 percent for the game to be out rebound the Golden Lions 25-20.
Turnovers were a considerable factor in Monday's contest, UAPB converted 24 Jackson St. turnovers into 26 points, with 37 coming on the fast break.
The Lady Lions were led by Jazyme Victorian scoring a career high 24 points, followed by
Christina Lasane with 15 points and
Carlisha Walker with.
The Lady Tigers had four players in double figures, starting with Alisa Ross with 16 points, Dominique Brothern with 15 points, followed by Ayanna-Fuller-Hardy with 14 points and Kameron Jones with 12 points.
Next up for the Lady Lions will be looking for revenge when they will host Alabama A&M Saturday Feb. 8, 2014 at 5:00PM
