Matthew Schwanke joins the Lady Lions as graduate assistant for volleyball, entering his first season with the program in 2026.
Schwanke arrives at UAPB after coaching high school volleyball and swimming in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania. Prior to his coaching career, he spent time at Coastal Carolina University, where he contributed to broadcasts on ESPN+ and supported the athletic department's digital media initiatives.
A lifelong athlete, Schwanke played both club and high school volleyball before going on to compete as a Division I student-athlete in water polo at Mount St. Mary's University.
He earned his master's degree in Sport and Recreation Management from Coastal Carolina University. Schwanke also holds a bachelor's degree from Mount St. Mary's University, where he double-majored in Business and Sport Management with a minor in Communications.
A native of the Mason-Dixon Line region, Schwanke's parents still reside in the area, where they look after his dog, Gaara, while he begins his coaching career. He has two brothers — a twin, born just two minutes behind him, and another brother two months his junior.
