The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff's head volleyball coach, Gabrielle Floyd, has announced Cornysia Island as the Lady Lions' Assistant Coach.
Before becoming assistant coach, Island served as a graduate assistant for the Golden Lions. Prior to joining UAPB, Island was the Assistant Coach for the Texas All-Stars during the past club season.
In her coaching career, Island played a significant role in Zykia Jones being named to the SWAC All-Conference team in 2023.
Island, a native of Lancaster, Texas, attended Fisk University, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in business administration management and played on the university's volleyball team. As a student-athlete, Island received accolades as a second-team all-conference player as a freshman and ranked third in leading blocks in her conference.
In the summer of 2021, Island interned for the Texas Rangers MLB inaugural class of Charlie Pride Fellows, working in marketing, player relations, and baseball operations. Island is currently working towards her MBA in Analytics Administration.
