PINE BLUFF, Ark. — The Golden Lions Baseball team made a statement on Wednesday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex, erupting for 32 runs on 16 hits in a dominant 32-6 mercy-rule victory over Arkansas Baptist in a non-conference contest.

UAPB wasted absolutely no time getting to work. In the bottom of the first inning, the Golden Lions sent 15 batters to the plate and put up 13 runs before Arkansas Baptist could even catch their breath. The fireworks started when Jose Vasquez was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a wild throw after Zach Wieder put down a bunt single. Wieder kept the pressure on, driving in a run with a triple down the left field line in the same frame and later scoring on a wild pitch. Blake Coleman added a double and Aaron Grant followed with an RBI single up the middle to keep the line moving. Konner Giddley blew the game open with a two-run double through the left side, and Zyon Hamilton kept the damage going with a two-run double down the left field line. Hamilton added a two-run single in the same inning as the Lions capped a 13-run first inning that set the tone for the entire afternoon.

The offense didn't let off in the second inning, adding four more runs behind key contributions from Aaron Grant and Augusto Schroeder, who came off the bench and delivered a two-RBI single through the right side to extend the lead to 17. After a scoreless third, the Lions went right back to work in the fourth inning with a jaw-dropping 15-run explosion that put the game completely out of reach. Blake Coleman, Aaron Grant, and Lazaro Alvarado all delivered RBI contributions in the frame, while Joe Adams — pinch-hitting for Zyon Hamilton — ripped a two-run double down the left field line. Augusto Schroeder added another big at-bat with a two-run double through the right side, and Jordan Medellin came through with an RBI hit-by-pitch as the Golden Lions kept the line moving to reach their final total of 32 runs.

UAPB pounded out 16 hits on the day with 13 hit batsmen as Arkansas Baptist pitchers had no answers for the Golden Lions lineup. Aaron Grant led the way with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, finishing with five RBI and four runs scored. Zyon Hamilton went 2-for-3 with four RBI in the starting lineup before giving way to Joe Adams, who went 1-for-1 with two RBI in his pinch-hit role. Augusto Schroeder was another standout off the bench, going 2-for-3 with five RBI. Lazaro Alvarado went 2-for-5 with an RBI and scored three times, and Blake Coleman posted a 1-for-3 day with two RBI and five runs scored.

Nate Lee earned the win on the mound, turning in two scoreless innings to start the game and striking out three while allowing just one hit. Spencer Watson followed with two more efficient frames, punching out five and keeping Arkansas Baptist off the scoreboard before handing things off to the bullpen.
