GRAMBLING, LA. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team turned in a dominant defensive performance Wednesday night, holding Grambling State to just 12 percent shooting from three-point range en route to a 67–64 road victory over the Tigers.
The Golden Lions placed three players in double figures, led by Quion Williams, who finished with 18 points and a game-high nine assists. Milhan Charles added 15 points, while Jaquan Scott recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
UAPB's offense was fueled by strong ball movement, as the Golden Lions totaled 16 assists on 23 made field goals. Williams paced the team in distributing the basketball, accounting for more than half of the assists.
Defensively, UAPB limited Grambling State to 39.1 percent shooting from the floor, including just 3-of-25 from beyond the arc, setting the tone for the Golden Lions' second straight road win.
How It Happened
After falling behind 17–13 early, UAPB responded with a 9–0 run midway through the first half, capped by a three-pointer from Alex Mirhosseini, to take a 22–17 lead with 8:41 remaining. Grambling trimmed the deficit late, but the Golden Lions carried a 32–30 advantage into halftime.
UAPB controlled the paint in the opening half, scoring 18 of its 32 points inside.
Coming out of the break, the Golden Lions steadily built their lead, pushing it to 50–44 before going on a decisive 7–0 run. Williams capped the stretch with a jumper to give UAPB its largest lead of the night, 57–44, with 10:21 remaining.
Grambling State made a late push to cut into the margin, but UAPB remained composed down the stretch to secure the 67–64 victory. The Golden Lions capitalized on six offensive rebounds in the second half, converting them into seven second-chance points.
