ITTA BENA, MS. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team turned in a strong defensive performance on the road Saturday, holding Mississippi Valley State to just 20 percent shooting from three-point range in a 78–70 victory over the Delta Devils at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.
UAPB placed four players in double figures, led by Milhan Charles, who posted a game-high 22 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists. Quion Williams followed with 19 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals, while Jaquan Scott added 11 points and six boards in the win.
The Golden Lions controlled the glass, edging Mississippi Valley State 33–31 in rebounding, with Charles pacing the effort. Defensively, UAPB limited the Delta Devils to just 2-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc and allowed only five offensive rebounds, holding MVSU to eight second-chance points while securing 24 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
After Mississippi Valley State took an early 8–6 lead, UAPB responded with a decisive 13–0 run at the 14:18 mark of the first half to seize a 19–8 advantage. Although the Delta Devils trimmed the deficit, the Golden Lions carried a 30–24 lead into halftime, fueled by four three-pointers that accounted for 12 of their first-half points.
Coming out of the break, UAPB continued to apply pressure, extending the lead to 38–29 before ripping off an 8–0 run capped by a Trevon Payton three-pointer to make it 46–29 with 15:42 remaining. Mississippi Valley State attempted to rally late, but the Golden Lions remained in control, cruising to the 78–70 road victory.
UAPB dominated the interior, scoring 26 points in the paint and using balanced scoring and defensive intensity to close out the win.
