BATON ROUGE, LA. -The University of Arkanas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team hit 7-of-15 attempts from beyond the arc, shooting 46.7 percent from deep in an 80-65 loss to the Southern Jaguars on the road Saturday.

The Golden Lions had three players score in double figures, led by Indiya Bowen, who had 15 points and eight rebounds. Jayla Cornelius tacked on 14 points from the bench and Jailah Pelly chipped in as well with 14 points.

UAPB out-rebounded Southern 36-32 in Saturday's game, led by eight boards from Briontanay Marshall. The Golden Lions also pulled down 13 offensive rebounds and scored 13 second chance points.
 

How It Happened

UAPB struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-11 at the end of the first quarter.

Southern kept adding to that lead, building a 28-13 advantage before UAPB went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a three from Bowen, to narrow its deficit to 28-20. Southern responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Golden Lions trailing 38-27 heading into halftime.

UAPB's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Golden Lions faced a 60-42 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. UAPB played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 15 points in the paint.

Southern kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 75-56 advantage before UAPB went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Bowen's three, to shrink the deficit to 75-61 with 2:58 to go in the contest. Southern responded and outscored the Golden Lions the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 80-65. UAPB got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring 10 of its 23 total points.
