PINE BLUFF, Ark. — The UAPB Lady Lions opened SWAC play with a gritty, wire-to-wire battle on Thursday night inside H.O. Clemmons Arena, fighting all the way into overtime before falling 71-65.
UAPB settled in after the opening quarter and answered with a strong second period to head into halftime even at 24-24. Coming out of the break, the Lady Lions turned up the pressure and pace, using a 19-point third quarter to build a 43-36 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes.
The defining stretch came late in regulation. With the game tightening in the closing minute, Jasmine Davis sparked a huge momentum swing with a steal at :41, setting up free throws that pushed the Lady Lions in front 55-53. UAPB stayed aggressive on both ends, creating extra chances and getting stops—then had one more look in the final seconds after the game was tied, forcing overtime.
In the extra period, Indiya Bowen drilled a clutch three to open scoring and put UAPB ahead 58-55, keeping the energy in the building high. The Lady Lions continued to compete to the horn—Jailah Pelly finished through contact late and Bowen knocked down two free throws in the closing seconds—showing the fight and belief that will carry into the heart of the SWAC schedule.
