PINE BLUFF, Arkansas -- University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football team used a huge 324-yard performance on the ground, including 226 yards from Jaylen Jennings, and four rushing touchdowns to pick up a 34-8 win against Lincoln (CA) Oaklanders Saturday night at home at Simmons Bank Field.
The win improved UAPB's record to 1-2 on the season while Lincoln (CA) the fell to 0-3.
Jennings led all Golden Lions rushers with 226 yards and four touchdowns in the contest, picking up 8.7 yards per carry. Bryant Sanchez also added 52 yards on the ground, averaging 5.2 yards per carry.
Kareem Burke reeled in four catches for 80 yards and one score. Jr. Hicks got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in four balls for 73 yards.
Michael Henderson paced the UAPB defensive effort, collecting one interception. Elijah Jenkins added 1.0 TFL and one sack and Team had in the win.
The Golden Lions forced one turnover in Saturday's contest, with UAPB turning that takeaway into seven points. UAPB also had an outstanding day offensively, racking up 525 total yards, 324 on the ground and 201 through the air, while averaging 6.7 yards per play and out-gaining . The UAPB offense did a good job prolonging drives, converting on 50 percent of third-down attempts. The Golden Lions also went 3-for-3 on fourth down.
Defensively, UAPB did an excellent job limiting the offensive attack, holding the to 181 total yards. The Golden Lions kept under 150 yards on both the ground and through the air, allowing 145 passing and 36 rushing yards.
How It Happened
UAPB got on the scoreboard first and opened up a 6-0 lead on the game's first drive.Another Golden Lions score then increased the lead to 13-0.
Lincoln (CA) then scored to make it a 13-8 game, but UAPB responded with 7:02 left in the third quarter to increase its lead to 20-8.The Golden Lions kept building their lead, scoring again to go ahead 27-8.
UAPB continued to expand its lead, scoring again with 10:02 left in the fourth quarter to go on top 34-8. Neither team scored again in the game.
