Pine Bluff, AR. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff proudly announces the return of alumnus Brenton Sumler as Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance. A former four-year football letterwinner and UAPB graduate, Brenton brings 21+ years of experience in collegiate athletics leadership, NCAA compliance, student-athlete development, and sport administration.
A nationally respected leader in student-athlete well-being, conduct, and holistic development, Sumler has served in key leadership positions at the University of Oklahoma, LSU, Appalachian State, and the University of Memphis. Most recently, as Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Experience, Well-Being, Conduct & Accountability at Oklahoma, he oversaw comprehensive well-being initiatives, sport administration for multiple Olympic sports and NCAA Title IX education.
Throughout his career, Brenton has been recognized for creating and managing innovative programs that empower student-athletes academically, personally, and professionally, while ensuring programs operate with integrity and in full compliance with NCAA and conference regulations. His extensive compliance background includes eligibility certification, NCAA Academic Performance Program (APR) reporting, and rules education He has also led nationally recognized student-athlete development programs, secured and managed competitive grants, and served in leadership roles with the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) and the SEC and Big 12 Student-Athlete Development Director Committees.
Brenton holds a Bachelor of Science degree from UAPB and a Master of Science in Sport Commerce from the University of Memphis. Deeply connected to his alma mater, he is a member of the UAPB/AM&N Letter "A" Club, the National Alumni Association, and was honored as one of the inaugural "50 Under 50 Outstanding Young Alumni."
In returning to UAPB, Sumler brings a passion for advancing the Golden Lion student-athlete experience, a commitment to integrity, and a vision for elevating UAPB Athletics on and off the field of play. His wife, Tina, also a proud UAPB alumna and daughter two UAPB alumni, shares his Golden Lion pride. Together they have five children (two of whom are current UAPB students) and one grandchild; making the family's commitment to the university a true multi-generational legacy.
