UAPB opens the 2025 season on the road at Texas Tech on Saturday, August 30.

Pine Bluff, AR. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) football team continued its preparations for the 2025 campaign with its first scrimmage in full pads over the weekend at Simmons Bank Field. The competitive session allowed the Golden Lions to evaluate execution, test their physicality, and sharpen game-day readiness ahead of their season opener on Saturday, August 30, at Texas Tech.

Head Coach Alonzo Hampton said the team's first day in full pads brought an extra level of intensity and urgency.

"This was an important step in our fall camp," Hampton said. "You can only learn so much without pads. Saturday scrimmage was about competing, hitting, and executing under pressure. I saw a lot of positives, but we still have work to do before we head to Lubbock."

The scrimmage featured a mix of big plays from the offense, a strong defensive presence that forced multiple turnovers, and valuable live reps for the special teams unit. Veterans set the tone with leadership and communication, while newcomers took advantage of the opportunity to make their mark.

"Our players understand the challenge of opening the season on the road against a Power Five opponent," Hampton added. "The focus now is building consistency and discipline so we can compete at the highest level."

The Golden Lions will continue camp this week with additional practices and another scrimmage before transitioning into game-week preparations for Texas Tech.

UAPB opens the 2025 season on the road at Texas Tech on Saturday, August 30. Kickoff from Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas, is set for 6:30 p.m. The game will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
