Academic Progress Rates (APR) on the Rise Across UAPB Athletic Programs
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) continues to demonstrate strong academic commitment among its athletic programs, as evidenced by recent Academic Progress Rate (APR) data. Several teams achieved perfect single-year APR scores of 1000 for the 2023–2024 academic year, including Men's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Men's Track, Women's Cross Country, Women's Track, and Women's Volleyball. Notably, Men's Cross Country also achieved a perfect multi-year APR of 1000, indicating sustained excellence over time.
The Academic Progress Rate (APR) is a metric used by the NCAA to monitor the academic performance and retention of student-athletes. Each student-athlete can earn up to two points each term: one for staying enrolled in school and another for maintaining academic eligibility. A team's APR is calculated by dividing the total points earned by the total points possible and multiplying by 1,000. A perfect APR score is 1000, and teams must maintain a multi-year average of at least 930 to avoid penalties, such as reduced practice time or postseason ineligibility.
APR Progress from 2021–2022 to 2023–2024
Since 2021, UAPB has demonstrated noticeable academic improvement across multiple sports, as reflected in both single-year and multi-year APR scores. This sustained progress reflects the university's commitment to academic excellence in athletics. The Football APR single year score has increased from 18 points from 2021/2022 to 2023/2024. The UAPB SAAS team has been able to assist with increasing multi-years APR Scores by 118 points across 14 sports.
