BEAUMONT, Texas - Junior Eli Gries-Smith went 1-for-3 with a double, but the UAPB Golden Lions still came up short on Wednesday, and suffered defeat at the hands of the Lamar Cardinals by a final of 3-1.
Junior Steffan Fak came out of the bullpen for UAPB and took the loss. Sophomore Cole Kenyon was a bright spot for the Golden Lions, coming out of the bullpen as well and throwing 2.2 shutout innings, allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
Offensively, the Golden Lions were paced by Gries-Smith, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double and a walk. Senior Ben VanMaanen put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-4 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Golden Lions first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. UAPB got an RBI single from VanMaanen, scoring Gries-Smith from third base. Lamar then scored two times over the remaining three innings to break the tie and grab the 3-1 win.
