#UAPBWomensHoops: Golden Lions Alumna Zaay Green Drafted 32nd Overall by Washington Mystics in 2025 WNBA Draft

Zaay Green drafted 32nd overall by the Washington Mystics in the 2025 WNBA Draft
PINE BLUFF, AR.- Former University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) women's basketball standout Zaay Green has etched her name into the history books, becoming the first Lady Lion ever selected in the WNBA Draft. Green was picked 32nd overall by the Washington Mystics in the 2025 WNBA Draft, marking a groundbreaking milestone for both her and the UAPB women's basketball program.

A 2024 graduate of UAPB, Green transferred to the University of Alabama as a graduate student, where she wasted no time making her mark in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Known for her explosiveness, versatility, and high basketball IQ, Green quickly rose as one of the SEC's most impactful guards, continuing her trajectory as a top-tier talent on the national stage.

Before her time at Alabama, Green carved out a legendary career at UAPB from 2021 to 2024. A Parade All-American coming out of high school, she brought instant credibility and leadership to the Lady Lions upon her arrival from her previous power five school. She quickly became the centerpiece of the team's offense, consistently leading in scoring, rebounding, and playmaking. Over three seasons at UAPB, Green compiled:
  • 1,278 points (17.0 PPG)
  • 533 rebounds (7.1 RPG)
  • 408 assists (5.4 APG)
  • 176 steals (2.3 SPG)
  • 28 double-doubles
  • Six triple-doubles, including the first in program history

Her leadership and dominance earned her multiple All-SWAC honors, and she was often the focal point of opposing defenses. Yet, her ability to consistently deliver in clutch moments captured the attention of WNBA scouts and general managers nationwide.

Green's basketball journey is deeply rooted in family. Her mother, Yolanda Nicole Harris, was a standout at Stephen F. Austin St. University, where she was a four-year starter and still ranks among the school's all-time leaders in steals. Her father, Zoderick Green, was an All-American at the University of Central Oklahoma and holds the school record for assists in a single game. Growing up in a basketball household, Zaay was surrounded by high-level mentorship from an early age, with her father also serving as one of her earliest coaches.

Green's draft selection is a testament to her relentless work ethic and the growth of the UAPB women's basketball program. With a combination of elite talent, court vision, and leadership, she's poised to make an immediate impact in the professional ranks—and her journey from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the pros will inspire future generations of Golden Lions.
