#UAPBSoftball: Golden Lions Splits Doubleheader against Grambling St.

GAME 1 | UAPB 4, Grambling 3

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas --The University of Arkansas at Pine Blugf Lady Lions fought back from down 3-0 in the fifth inning to knock off the Grambling Tigers 4-3 Sunday.

Sophomore Kayla Adams started in the circle and picked up the win for UAPB.

The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on five hits, allowing six walks and striking out nine.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 3-0, the Lady Lions first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. UAPB's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of senior Kaitlyn Neely. The score remained 4-3 for the rest of the game, as the Lady Lions held on for the win.

GAME NOTES

» Adams struck out nine Tigers hitters.
» UAPB's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed four runs across.
» Four Lady Lions had multiple hits in the ballgame.
» The Lady Lions out-hit the Tigers at a 10-5 clip.
» UAPB pitchers limited Grambling to just 2-for-13 (.154) with runners in scoring position.
» UAPB pitchers faced 31 Grambling hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and six fly balls while striking out nine.
» Junior Ariana Gonzalez led the Lady Lions at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.


 

GAME 2 | Grambling 14, UAPB 3

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas --The UAPB Lady Lions had a tough showing on Sunday, falling to the Grambling Tigers 14-3 despite the efforts of freshman Angelina Rivas who went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Junior Danika Bryant got the ball to start for UAPB and took the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 4-0, the Lady Lions first put runs on the board in the second inning. UAPB got on the board thanks to freshman Angelina 's RBI double with two outs.

The Tigers expanded their lead to 14-1 before the Lady Lions offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. UAPB brought home a pair, with one run driven in by junior Ariana 's single, which tightened the Tigers lead to 14-3. The Lady Lions were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
