Montgomery, AL. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions put together a powerful rushing performance, totaling 226 yards on the ground, including 133 yards from standout running back Jaylen Jennings, but ultimately fell 44-13 to Alabama State Saturday afternoon at ASU Stadium.

Jennings paced the Golden Lions' offense with 133 rushing yards and one touchdown on 25 carries, averaging 5.3 yards per attempt. True freshman quarterback Garrison Davis, making his first collegiate start, added 48 rushing yards and a touchdown, giving UAPB two scores on the ground.

Through the air, D'Avery Robinson led the receiving corps with seven receptions for 63 yards.

Defensively, Derron Moore led the Golden Lions with seven tackles and one pass breakup, while Vaughn Highland followed closely with six tackles. 

UAPB controlled the ground game, out-rushing Alabama State 226–203 while averaging 4.8 yards per carry and winning the time of possession battle 35:17 to 24:43.

How It Happened

UAPB opened the game with authority, marching down the field on the opening drive to take a 7-0 lead. Alabama State responded quickly and went on a run to build a 30-7 advantage.

The Golden Lions cut into the deficit in the third quarter when Davis punched in a rushing touchdown to make it a 30-13 game. However, UAPB was unable to take advantage of additional opportunities, and Alabama State added 14 late points to close out the contest.
