PINE BLUFF, AR -- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team won the first two sets, but couldn't hold on and lost 3-2 (25-20, 25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 11-15) to the Alabama State Lady Hornets Sunday at home at HO Clemmons Arena.
The Lady Lions were led by a double-double from Zykia Jones, who registered 15 kills and 15 digs on the day. Ashanti Butler also added 12 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, MacKenzie McDowell chipped in for with 18 digs to go with six blocks from Laila Fortson.

SET 1 | The Lady Lions opened up an early one set to none lead, winning the first set 25-20. UAPB never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 21-20 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Lady Lions took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, UAPB put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-21 victory in set number two. The Lady Lions never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Lady Lions took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | Alabama State stayed alive with a third-set win to make it a 2-1 match. The Lady Lions lost a tough set 25-18. UAPB trailed by as many as eight points as Alabama State grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was knotted up two times before the Lady Hornets took over the lead.
SET 4 | UAPB then dropped their second straight set 25-21 to brind the match level at two sets apiece. The Lady Lions came up short in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured six lead changes and was tied 10 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way.
SET 5 | UAPB won the first two sets, but couldn't take another set on their way to losing the match. The Lady Lions lost set five despite a solid performance on the attacking side. UAPB registered a .353 attack percentage with seven kills in the set loss.
