#UAPBVolleyball Lady Lions earn 3-1 victory against Arkansas-Monticello

MONTICELLO, AR --The UAPB volleyball team beat the Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 27-25, 25-14) Tuesday on the road at Steelman Fieldhouse.

The Lady Lions were led by a double-double from Zykia Jones, who registered 15 kills and 21 digs on the day. Amayah Jones also added 11 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Anaiah Jordan chipped in for with 19 digs to go with two blocks from Marlina Anderson.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Lions endured a back-and-forth first set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied nine times. Neither team led by more than three points in the match. The Lady Lions opening set win came in a stanza where 17 of their 25 points came via the kill.

SET 2 | UAPB then fell in set two 25-20, tying the match at a set apiece. Arkansas-Monticello grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that was knotted up six times before the Cotton Blossoms took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 3 | UAPB then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Lady Lions came out on top of a close battle, winning 27-25 in a set that was tied seven times and had two lead changes. The UAPB offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza. UAPB's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Arkansas-Monticello attacks in the stanza.

SET 4 | UAPB kept the momentum going, closing out the match with a 25-14 set-four victory. The Lady Lions scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. UAPB opened up as much as a 13 point lead at 20-7 before closing out the stanza, totaling 15 kills along the way.
