BATON ROUGE, Louisiana --Jaden Kelly racked up 15 tackles in UAPB's 31-9 loss to Southern on the road Saturday afternoon.
Mekhi Hagens led UAPB's passing attack with 216 yards through the air.
Bj Curry led all Golden Lions rushers with 85 yards in the contest, picking up 5 yards per carry. Curry also added 85 receiving yards. Za'Marion Webber also added 20 yards on the ground.
JaVonnie Gibson reeled in 10 catches for 85 yards.
Kelly led the Golden Lions defensively with his 15 tackles, 13 of them solo. Martavious Miller added one interception and Abdulbasit Osholake tacked on 1.0 TFL and one sack.
The Golden Lions forced one turnover in Saturday's contest, with UAPB turning that takeaway into three points. The UAPB offense did a good job keeping drives alive, converting on 46.7 percent of third-down attempts.
How It Happened
UAPB got on the scoreboard first with 7:42 left in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead.The Golden Lions then increased their lead to 6-0 with another score.
Southern fought back to take a 24-6 lead before UAPB put a field goal on the board to narrow the gap with 1:33 left in the third quarter and make it a 24-9 game. UAPB didn't score again in the game and Southern added seven more points to finish off the game.
