TAMPA, FL --The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team got a 45-point performance from the bench, but fell 85-69 to the South Florida Bulls on the road Tuesday.
The Golden Lions had two players score in double figures, led by Dante Sawyer, who had 24 points and eight rebounds. Christian Moore tacked on 12 points and five assists and Robert Lewis added eight points and eight rebounds.
Led by Klemen Vuga's three offensive rebounds, UAPB did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in 10 second chance points.
The UAPB defense held South Florida shooters to only 39.1 percent from the field, including 23.5 percent from three-point range. The Golden Lions also kept Jayden Reid to 2-of-12 shooting in the game.
How It Happened
UAPB struggled out of the gate, falling behind 50-34 heading into halftime.
South Florida kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 57-38 advantage before UAPB went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Vuga's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 57-45 with 14:00 to go in the contest. South Florida responded and outscored the Golden Lions the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 85-69. UAPB got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 22 of its 35 total points.
