PINE BLUFF, AR -- The University of Arkansas Pine Bluff volleyball team needed just three sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-17) to knock off the Arkansas-Monticello Tuesday at home at HO Clemmons Arena.
The Lady Lions were led by a double-double from Zykia Jones, who registered 10 kills and 11 digs on the day. Amayah Jones also added six kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Lyla Jones chipped in with nine digs to go with three blocks from Ashanti Butler.
"Not the best performance, but we're excited to have our first win of the season," head coach Gabrielle Floyd remarking the win. "We're recognizing what we need to continue to work on. However, the excitement was there. We have to continue to work hard offensively and defensively, and continue to gel together as a team."

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Lions won the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to win the first set 25-20. UAPB opened up its biggest lead, five points, to finish off the set, collecting 15 kills in the process.
SET 2 | UAPB built on a set-one win by securing a 25-22 victory in set two. The Lady Lions grabbed the advantage for good at 22-21 in a set that had just one lead change before the Lady Lions took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | UAPB then capped the three-set sweep with a victory in set number three. The Lady Lions took control of the set early when the score was 4-3 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-17. UAPB led by as many as 10 points at 18-8 before finishing off the stanza. UAPB's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Arkansas-Monticello attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 11 Arkansas-Monticello attacking errors on the way to victory.
