PINE BLUFF, AR --Robert Lewis registered a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, but the UAPB men's basketball team fell to the Alcorn State Braves 63-58 at home Saturday.
In addition to Lewis' double-double, the Golden Lions were led by Shaun Doss Jr., who recorded 15 points and three steals, and by Kylen Milton, who tacked on 15 points and eight rebounds.
UAPB out-rebounded Alcorn State 35-31 in Saturday's game, paced by Lewis' 12 boards. The Golden Lions also pulled down 10 offensive rebounds and scored nine second chance points.
The UAPB defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 16 Alcorn State turnovers while committing 10. Those takeaways turned into 12 points on the other end of the floor. Doss Jr.'s three steals led the way individually for the Golden Lions.
How It Happened
UAPB started out the scoring by going on a 9-0 run to take an early lead with 17:59 left in the first half. The Golden Lions then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 29-26 advantage. UAPB relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 29 points.
Alcorn State proceeded to take a 45-40 lead before UAPB went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Lewis' layup, to seize a 47-45 lead with 7:54 to go in the contest. Alcorn State re-asserted control, outscoring the Golden Lions 18-11 the rest of the way to hand UAPB the 63-58 loss. UAPB made the most of six offensive rebounds to tack on six second chance points out of 29 total in the period.
