#UAPBGolf Wins Gulf Shores Invitational

Gulf Shores, AL. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's golf team closed out the Gulf Shores Invitational in style Tuesday evening as they routed to its third team championship this season at the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club, hosted by the BCGCA (Black College Golf Coaches Association).

The Golden Lions have won three titles in the last four tournaments this season, which is the first in the history of the program.

UAPB finished with a team overall score of (903), followed by Prairie View A&M with (927), Texas Southern (956), Savannah St. (959), and Maryland Eastern Shore (971).

"What an awesome effort this week by our team," UAPB head golf coach Roger Totten. "They had the minset of coming out regardless of the weather condition and finishing strong. I'm proud of our guys on how they performed and represented the program, because it's not easy to do something that everybody else thinks may be easy and it requires having the right focus on the right things. We had all five guys locked in and they all finished in the top seven of the tournament.

The Golden Lions had four golfers named to the All-Tournament team (Patrick Mwendapole, Angel Perez, Isamael Garcia, and Li Su).
Mwendapole led the pack finishing second overall with a three-day score of (+8/223), followed by Perez with a third place finished (+9/225), Garcia placing fourth (+11/227), and Su in fifth (+13/229) to round out the top four. Jamie Moliner also had an impressive finish for UAPB in seventh place overall with a score of (+18/234).

The Golden Lions will have two weeks off before resuming action at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate Invitational (April 9-11) in Nashville, TN.
