PINE BLUFF, AR - Maori Davenport collected 12 rebounds, but the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team fell to the Jackson State Lady Tigers 56-42 at home Thursday.

Davenport led the Lady Lions with eight points, 12 rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Coriah Beck tacked on 15 points and two steals and Maya Peat helped out with six points and two blocks.

How It Happened

It was a defensive battle out of the gate, with the Lady Lions falling behind 11-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Jackson State kept adding to that lead, building a 16-9 advantage before UAPB went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Davenport, to narrow its deficit to 16-15, a score that would hold until halftime.

UAPB's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Lady Lions faced a 33-30 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. UAPB turned zero offensive rebounds into four second chance points on the way to scoring 15 total points in the quarter.

Jackson State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 53-37 advantage before UAPB went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Davenport's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 53-42 with 1:16 to go in the contest. Jackson State responded and outscored the Lady Lions the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 56-42. UAPB took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its 12 points in the paint.
