PINE BLUFF, Arkansas -UAPB Golden Lions fell 9-7 in a 10-inning matchup to the Texas Southern Tigers Friday at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
Junior Jordan Jones came out of the bullpen for UAPB and took the loss. Sophomore Randy Little was a bright spot for the Golden Lions, starting the ballgame and throwing 6.2 innings, giving up four runs, all earned, on six hits, with one walk and six strikeouts.
Junior Micah Brown led the way offensively for the Golden Lions, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame with two doubles and three RBI. Junior Aidan Martinez put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-2 with a walk and three RBI. Junior Edwin DeLaCruz also chipped in, going 2-for-5 for UAPB.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 4-0, the Golden Lions first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. UAPB got an RBI single from Martinez, scoring sophomore Carlos Velez from second base.
The Golden Lions kept the deficit at 4-1 before taking the lead in the sixth. The UAPB offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Brown and a two-run single from Martinez, which brought the Golden Lions lead to 5-4.
UAPB's lead had evaporated by the time the ninth inning came around and turned into a 7-5 Texas Southern advantage, when the Golden Lions evened up the game at seven. The Golden Lions recorded two runs off of Texas Southern pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double from Brown. Texas Southern then scored two times over the remaining one inning to break the tie and grab the 9-7 win.
