, Lorman, MS.- UAPB men's basketball team put together a rally late in Saturday's game, outscoring Alcorn State 20-6 in the final five minutes, but ultimately came up short, falling to the Braves 70-67.
The Golden Lions had two players score in double figures, led by Ac Curry, who had 18 points and three steals. Jr. Shaun Doss added 17 points and four assists and Trejon Ware added nine points, six rebounds and four assists.
The UAPB offense was very productive from three point land, knocking down 15 threes on 36 attempts. Curry was the most prolific shooter for the Golden Lions, draining six treys in the contest.
UAPB forced 13 Alcorn State turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Saturday's game. The Golden Lions turned those takeaways into 15 points on the offensive end of the floor. Curry's three steals led the way for UAPB.
How It Happened
UAPB struggled out of the gate, falling behind 36-23 heading into halftime.
Alcorn State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 64-47 advantage before UAPB went on a 16-0 run, finished off by Jr Shaun Doss' layup, to shrink the deficit to 64-63 with 31 seconds to go in the contest. Alcorn State responded and outscored the Golden Lions the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 70-67. UAPB shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting nine shots from deep to score 27 of its 44 points.
