JONESBORO, Ark. --UAPB Golden Lions took a 2-1 lead into the eighth inning, but could not hang on and fell 4-3 to the Arkansas State Red Wolves Saturday.
Junior Jaxson Lucas came out of the bullpen for UAPB and took the loss. Senior Jacob Riordan was a bright spot for the Golden Lions, starting the ballgame and throwing five innings, giving up one run on four hits, with one walk and six strikeouts.
Junior Drew Cates led the way offensively for the Golden Lions, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Lions were trailing 1-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. Cates' run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for UAPB.
The Red Wolves failed to push any runs across before the Golden Lions built on their lead in the eighth inning. UAPB scored a run when senior JaKobi Jackson drew a walk from freshman Kyler Carmack that scored junior Brandon Simon, which brought the Golden Lions lead to 3-1. The Golden Lions were unable to hold the lead, as Arkansas State scored three times over the remaining one inning to grab the 4-3 win.
