#UAPBBaseball: Golden Lions Late Rally, Falls Short To Red Wolves

JONESBORO, Ark. --The Golden Lions got three hits out of Edwin DeLaCruz in a 12-8 loss to the Arkansas State Red Wolves Sunday.

Brandon Little  got the ball to start for UAPB and took the loss. Brannon Bargsley was a bright spot for the Golden Lions, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two scoreless innings, allowing one hit.

In addition to his three hits, DeLaCruz had two doubles, a walk and two RBI to lead the Golden Lions. Jelani Willis put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with a home run and three RBI. Drew Cates also contributed for UAPB, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Golden Lions first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. UAPB got on the board thanks to DeLaCruz's RBI double with two outs.

The Red Wolves then scored nine runs to retake their advantage heading into the sixth inning, when the Golden Lions responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. UAPB scored a run when Derek Blackmore drew a walk from senior Austin Brock that scored Cates, which tightened the Red Wolves lead to 10-2.

Arkansas State built their lead to 12-2 before the UAPB offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 12-3 in the eighth. The Golden Lions recorded a run on DeLaCruz's two-out RBI double.

UAPB kept the Red Wolves off the board before narrowing the gap further in the ninth. The Golden Lions scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Willis, bringing the score to 12-8 in favor of Arkansas State. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.
