PINE BLUFF, AR --The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team kept Alabama A&M to just 8.3 percent from beyond the arc in a 1-for-12 shooting performance on the way to a 60-57 win against the Bulldogs at home Monday.

The Lady Lions had three players score in double figures, led by Maya Peat, who had 18 points and four blocks. Jelissa Reese tacked on 12 points and four assists and Maori Davenport chipped in as well with 10 points and three blocks.

UAPB shared the ball well in Monday's game, racking up 15 assists on 22 made field goals. Individually, Reese dished out the most for the Lady Lions with four assists and Coriah Beck also added three assists of her own.

UAPB forced 19 Alabama A&M turnovers. The Lady Lions turned those takeaways into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Tia Morgan led the way individually with three steals.

How It Happened

After falling behind 10-9, UAPB went on a 12-0 run with 4:26 left in the first quarter to take a 21-10 lead. The Lady Lions then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 22-14 advantage. UAPB did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 22 points close to the basket.

The Lady Lions used the second period to increase their lead and entered halftime with a 32-23 edge.

Alabama A&M then took a 34-32 lead following intermission before UAPB went on a 5-0 run to grab a 37-34 lead with 5:11 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Bulldogs had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Lady Lions still entered the fourth quarter with a 48-46 edge. UAPB played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 16 points in the paint.

Alabama A&M proceeded to take a 52-50 lead before UAPB went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Peat's jumper, to seize a 56-52 lead with 1:49 to go in the contest. The Bulldogs narrowed the margin and tried to attempt a last second shot to tie the game, before Māori Davenport blocked the shot into the crowd to end the game as the Lady Lions held on for the 60-57 win. UAPB took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 12 points in the paint.
